Effect of Dihydrostreptomycin in Pleurisy with Effusion
نویسنده
چکیده
The effect of dihydrostreptomycin in pleurisy with effusion was studied in the following five cases. The diagnosis of effusion was established in every case by paracentesis thoracis. Presence of lymphocytosis, absence of any organism as evidenced by microscopic examination, and the fluid turning out sterile on culture led to the conclusion that the condition was due to a tuberculous focus in the lungs or pleura.

Intrapleural Pressures on the Contralateral Side in Pleurisy with Effusion
The intrapleural pressures on the contralateral side in pleurisy with effusion were within the normal range, the normal intrapleural pressures among Indians being ?14 to ?3 cm. of water during inspiration, ?10 to 0 cm. water during expiration, and the mean pressure ?12 to ?2 cm. water (Laha, 1946). Neither the amount nor the duration of effusion had any effect on the intrapleural pressures on t...

Objective(s) This study planned to assess the value of PCR IS6110 assay in tissue specimens of needle pleural biopsy in patients suspicious to pleural tuberculosis. Materials and Methods Sixty eight patients with lymphocytic exudative pleural effusion underwent pleural biopsy. Tissue samples were sent for pathologic examination and PCR IS6110 assay. The results of PCR reported as positive/ nega...

BACKGROUND We investigated the incidence of tuberculous pleurisy among patients with adenosine deaminase (ADA) levels of 50 IU/L or less in a pleural effusion, and without a previous diagnosis of carcinomatous pleurisy or Mycobacterium tuberculosis. SUBJECTS AND METHODS Subjects were selected from patients who had undergone pleural biopsy by thoracoscopy at National Hospital Organization Toky...
متن کاملEvaluation of Polymerase Chain Reaction for Diagnosis of “Tuberculous Pleurisy”
BACKGROUND Differential diagnosis between tuberculous pleurisy (TBP) and non- tuberculosis pleural effusion represents a critically important clinical problem. In recent years, several noninvasive methods have been found for diagnosis of tuberculous pleurisy. This study aimed to evaluate the value of detection of the genome of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) ...
